It's great to hear from you after all these years! Yes, we live in the North GA mountains. It's beautiful here, especially this time of year. Jim Grantham also lives here in Blairsville; Ron Beckey and Joe Skinner are not far away. We frequently have mini-reunions with others who are nearby and/or vacationing here. So if you're ever in the area, please let me know. I have a dear friend from FL who just spent the summer on his boat in Annapolis. Had a wonderful time until it burned one night about 3 weeks ago. He's back home now in NPB and happy to be alive.
I have seen Drum Line several times...good movie. My son-in-law is a high school band director and is very busy during marching season. He was also in the drum corps when he was a teenager. He traveled all over the country participating in marching competitions during his summers. Drum Corps is much like the movie Drum Line. It is hard work and competition is high. Bands have sure changed since we were in band.
You have a good memory. Yes, I played trombone. That was the last year that Swyers was band director. He taught us the importance of being a team player and being responsible for ourselves. Values that have served me well. James Gross was the band director my junior and senior years. He had a tough time breaking traditions. We marched differently and performed different music. I was band captain my senior year. I look back on my band years as the most rewarding experience during high school.
I talked with Paul Caroll when he was in town for the '59 reunion.
